Helping Families of Wounded Soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital
We just raised $840 in donations for the wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital. Families received a $20 gift card and one couple who are celebrating their wedding anniversary are getting a complimentary weekend at the McLean Hilton, including meals and movie tickets to the nearby new theater at Tysons.
Holiday Gifts for Evacuees
We will provide Christmas gifts for 50 hurricane evacuees living in Northern Virginia. This is being done through Reston Interfaith who just received 30 new families this week. Many of our members have offered to sponsor a family and do the Christmas shopping for them. NIF will take on more families if Reston Interfaith cannot find sponsors for them.
Helping a Displaced Family
We recently provided clothing, household goods, and toys to a displaced family in Falls Church. They were evacuated from Texas after the hurricanes. Mom, Dad, and two boys age 7 and 18 months are all doing as well as can be expected. A local preschool has offered to sponsor them for the holidays.
NIF to Receive Grant
We have been approved to receive a $1000 grant from a Michigan based foundation to help us continue our good works! Richard Kelly, NIF board member, has worked hard to secure the much needed funds. We'll post more details as we get them.
Member Donates Truck
We recently received a donation from a Neighbors' member of a pick-up truck to one of the Katrina evacuees to help them get back on their feet. It's this sort of generosity that reflects the spirit of the Foundation and the idea of Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
